Not in top 250?

wtf???

Excellent film. Not sure about top 250 but it's definitely up there. I could'nt believe how well done and how creative the camera work was too.

I think it's just simply a case of people not having seen the film, and hence not rating it. It's one of the best war/anti films ever made, though it's sad that no one has seen it, let alone is aware of it.

I have no idea why Andrei Rublev isn't.

I think this is largely due to the level of animal cruelty in the film. People are sensitive to that, and cannot feel good about giving it a high rating.

It really is a shame, because the film looked really really good, and definatly my kind of film. I would have loved to see it, but am just too sensitive to animal suffering.

O I didn't mean that it interferes with the message of the film, its just that animal cruelty renders the film ultimately unwatchable to those of us who are sensitive to it.

From what I hear the film is powerful, allegorical and simply amazing (as most Tarkovosky's films are), and I would like to see it, its just that some can't handle seeing dogs beaten to death or horses having their legs broken. For me, it might as well be a person dying, and thats just not something I can put myself through. Regardless of how good a film it is.

The 250-list is a joke so I wouldn't say it's after all such a big deal that some of the greatest movies ever made can't get there.

I was cured all right!

I think it's just because not enough people have rated it.

One shouldn't give a *** about top 250 anyway....

What made the universe made me.

I agree with Suomi.

The sad thing is that for every brilliant masterpiece in the top 250, there is another over-rated, bombastic Hollywood film from one of the so-called "greats".

Some people just have an incredibly America-centric, blinkered view of cinema and for them, Francis Ford Coppola, Scorsese, Spielberg and so on are the be all and end all of great cinema.

I don't mean that in the sense that they aren't good, but it just shows a lack of imagination and willingness to try new things.

Simply not well known enough I would say. Generally speaking this is one of Tarkovsky's more accessible works, but up until recently it did not have a DVD release, and really was hard to find. Not to mention the fact that Tarkovsky generally is thought of for his bigger films.

Hopefully with criterions new release the films popularity will grow.

Just saw it today, thought it was a great film though nowhere near top 250 material, not even if the unworthy films were removed(which would be 50+)and replaced with worthy ones. I would prefer another foreign film about WW2 called Kanal which I also saw today, right after this film in fact.
