The first part was amazing. Somewhere around the second third Ivan disappeared and the movie was about other characters, and frankly was not as interesting or as beautifully shot as the first part. In the end Ivan is back but the plot doesn't really tie together.

Those are pretty much my thoughts too. I still really liked the film and gave it 8/10, but it could have been higher.

shareTotally agree, the scene where Capt. Kholin pulls Mahsa over the pit and kisses her had me rolling my eyes. When she came back towards the end, I was so glad she just left because that meant that plotline went away.
What I wanted to see most of all was Ivan on his mission after they drop him off in the bog, instead we get the two adults going back to the shore.
I agree as well. It even started the film but was so unnecessary.
