It shouldn't have to be the case, but oftentimes the woman is the pulse of the relationship. That's definitely how it was in my last relationship anyway. I think it just has to do with the fact that woman want romance in a relationship, and once guys have the woman they want and love, the romantic side of them gets shoved aside for the comfort they feel in the relationship. He's assured he'll have her because he's satisfied with both realizing their love for each other; she is comfortable with the fact that love exists between the two, but wants the reminders of affection--this, I believe, goes back to basic primal instincts: the female of the species needs to know that she has a stable partner so they can begin raising a family. I think, too, the continual reminders of romance keep the relationship fresh for both the man and the woman. If she thinks it's getting stale with routine, there's the chance he thinks so too and may be bored with his lady, and will seek another woman--which is basic instinct for the male of the species. Also, guys tend not to pick up on hints from women that they want to be romanced, so grander gestures from women will make men realize what their ladies want, making the little and small gestures for a successful marriage more balanced out between the husband and wife.
Why did I write? Because I found life unsatisfactory.
