Will this ever get a DVD release?

I admire this film greatly, a subtle little piece about people escaping poverty in England by taking out indentured slavery, working off their service and thus buying their freedom in the new world. It falters towards the end but the extended one shot take between Mason and Kate Manx as they discuss slavery is one of the best scenes in modern cinema.

It never made it to VHS. It never seems to crop up on TV. Will it ever get a release, restored to beauty, on DVD?

Amazon still sells the widescreen MOD DVD-R of the film, from MGM. The color is faded, but the print is good otherwise.

reply

Is the MGM print widescreen?

reply

I'm pretty sure that the DVD-R print is in proper widescreen.

Actually I just found out that the print shown on TCM a few nights ago is the "proper" 2:35 ratio - the MGM dvd on-demand being sold is 1:85 ratio. Close, but no cigar.....

Thanks for the update, will watch for it to reappear on TCM at some point.
