One of the best titles ever for a film??

I am a big Steve McQueen fan (can't be that big if this is the first time I've seen HIFH) anyway, I can't think of too many film titles that have a better name, Hell is for Heroes, brilliant.
Does anyone have any information on this title??? is it an old saying or something??

I was wondering the same thing when I started this movie...

IMO it's a reference to the atrocities of war - i.e., we may call our returning soldiers "heroes", but if they've seen combat they're actually inhabiting a private mental hell. After finishing the movie, noting its numerous casualties and several horrific death scenes, I think that explanation makes sense.

"Hell is for Heroes" is just a more poetic way of saying, "Our heroes are actually in hell, and hell was made for them."
