Never heard of this movie. It was just on TCM and, not being a big fan of "Samuari movies", was only half paying attention. But then started watching because of the beautiful black and white cinematography. Then this involving, compassionate story unfolded with incredible acting. Great movie.

Can't believe TCM only gave this 3 out of 4 stars.
