Together Wherever We Go?

Why was my favorite song from the show, "Together Wherever We Go" deleted from the film? If it were to save time, they could have deleted "Little Lamb" which slowed the film. I never loved the film since they deleted this favorite. I realize that all musical films delete a song or two from the show, but "Together" is a classic.

I always felt they could of dump the Gimic Song instead. OH HOW I HATE THAT SONG!

There is more Gravy about you then the Grave. Scrooge.

I agree with you; it's one of the ugliest songs in a musical I think I've ever heard!

Please excuse typos/funny wording; I use speech-recognition that doesn't always recognize!

"Little Lamb" needs to be there to better develop Louise's character and help the audience get a peek inside her head.

"Together..." is a novelty song that does nothing to develop character or advance the story. I love the song, but it brings no value to the plot.

it also gave me the impression of a song which might have been performed 'half stage' in order to cover a set change (which obviously isn't needed in a film).

I thought that the song was in the movie

'Together Wherever We Go' is such a standard song now that I think it would have to be included in any 'Gyspsy' remakes. Bette Midler did a version in the 1993 'Gypsy.' I believe that Rosalind Russell's rendering of the song was shown to preview audiences. It's just a shame that it didn't make it to final theater cut in the film. I can just hear Mama Rose belting out that song.

I read they discussed cutting this from the stage show, and the director (?) (maybe?) argued it was about the only restrained number in the score, and the audience needed a rest.

All I Need Now is the Girl doesn't advance the story much...but it shows Louise having a crush on someone and (in the stage show) losing them.

The Gimmick song is necessary because you have to see the brazen, trashy world Louise is transitioning into.

True, but it does demonstrate that Louise has some semblance of talent, making her later-in-Act-II transformation to stage star easier to accept.

Totally agree with you, Little lamb, the Gimmick song and even the scene of Louise and Tulsa dancing could have easily been cut from the film but after seeing the deleted scenes extras on my dvd I think it was a crime to leave out Together wherever we go and the duet version of You'll never get away from me. And, in the end of the day, it would only have been a couple of extra minutes each added to the film so why not leave everything there except for the Gimmick song which I absolutely hate. Somebody said it's the worst song in a musical ever and they are absolutely right!

"Little Lamb" is one of my favorite songs of all time and is much needed in the film because it starts separating Louise as a person. The lyrics to the song not knowing "how old I am", etc explains a lot about her character. I can't tell you how many times I've sang the song myself. Cutting it out is like cutting out "In My Own Little Corner" in the musical version of "Cinderella" (Lesley Ann Warren version).

The worst for me that is always FF material is the scene of Louise and Tulsa in the back alley. I like a little of the scene of venting their frustrations and wanting to branch out but it stretches out into other directions that is a lot of nonsense. The "All I Need is the Girl" song definitely could be cut out as far I'm concerned. Who cares if Tulsa gets the girl when he's not shown anymore after that?

reply

All I need is the girl is so long too if they had cut it out they'd probably had been able to fit everything else, the deleted scenes etc. into the film without making it any longer. I agree, nobody cares anything about Tulsa when he is gone the next minute anyway.

reply

The deletion of Wherever We Go was a travesty as far as I am concerned.
