Zeta-Jones remake!

On playbill.com rumours abound that CZJ is going to star in a movie remake with Rob Marshall involved.!!!

With Midler's version already perfect in my eyes, I wouldn't mind seeing a different spin on the story (musical remakes are pretty rare though, and adding scenes is awkward)- hoping the interpretation doesn't change too much though. Plus would love to see 'Gypsy' on the big screen!

Anne Hathaway would make a great Gypsy I think.

On other news, I read in Arthur Laurents autobiography that he met a friend of Liz Smith's who had a lesbian affair with Mama Rose. Laurents also says Gypsy's memoirs were very imaginative (it's obvious reading them that they're exagerrated)- and June Havoc (Laurents references more from her book- supposedly Rose murdered a hotel manager-have to read her book!) wrote that Rose and Gypsy frequently held lesbian parties. Very bizarre! Doubt that will turn up in the movie though!

Kristin Chenoweth should totally play Tessie! It'd be hilarious- Tessie is usually pretty tall ("a ballerina")- it'd be great seeing her in the role.

Yeah Tulsa should definitely be an unknown- his scene is one of very few without Mama Rose, and is brilliant- having a big star play Tulsa, he'd end up getting lots of attention in the media "starring...." when it's a supporting role- hate when that happens!

I could see John C Reilly as Herbie- he's perfected that sort of role the last few years. Strangely, I could see Matthew Broderick as Herbie also.

Anne Hathaway is a good idea for Gypsy. It's a pity this wasn't made earlier- Kirsten Dunst would've made a good June.

I second Anne Hathaway, she was born to play Louise.(though there's rumor that they're looking at Scarlett Johansen for the part)

Kristen Bell might work for older June and she can sing too(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rO-CN9lJvYo) and then there's Hayden Panettiere(also can sing)

Mama Rose is not Zeta Jones' part. I'd champion the role for her if she decided she wanted to go back to the theatre and do Broadway, but Catherine is far too polished to pull off Mama Rose well on the big screen, it would just look odd.

When Marshall was auditioning actors for Chicago, he saw dozens and dozens of big names, apparently Toni Collette was outstanding! I would be happy seeing her play the role.

Might as well start dream casting it (behehehe).

Rose: Meryl Streep, Bernadette Peters, Patti LuPone, Miranda Richardson
Gypsy: Anne Hathaway would be ridiculously perfect, but I wouldn't be mad if Scarlett was cast (provided she can sing)
June: Rachel McAdams

The new $9,000,000 revival (yes, you read that right - nine million dollars) of GYPSY will star Patti Lupone and will open in March, less than four years after the last revival closed. By this time few in the audience will have any idea who Gypsy Rose Lee was, or what Burlesque was.

Oh please no!!!!!!
Dont let Zita Jones any where near this brilliant film.
She will take over the whole thing, make it all about HER & completely ruin it. I cant stand Zita-her ego is bigger than the flaming universe. When she did Chicargo she said in interview 'I was brilliant, i can dance better than Rennee Zellweger' blah blah blah.

When i watched her interview about Entrapment, she rambled on about how she walked the high beam, how no other actress would do that etc cos shes amazing blah blah 'Look at me im fantastic' etc.

If she stars in this - she will slay Natalie Wood & slag her off by saying shes better than her etc. In my opinion, Natalie was amazing & i love the film as it is.
If Zita Jones is going to star in a remake it will be 100% dreadful - i hate her.

So if its true - my message to Zita Jones is - SOD OFF - GO AWAY & COME UP WITH SOMETHING ELSE, LIKE GETTING STUCK IN A MINE WHERE NOBODY CAN SEE YOU!!
