Military dress

Pat Conway looked ridiculous as a Cavalry captain wearing his uniform shirt top button open with the kerchief tied around his neck, instead of under the collar. I'm sure it was done to give him a more arrogant look as he was the antagonist, but I'm certain it would have never been permitted in reality. Just a pet peeve of mine...
