Yes, it's true. She claimed she was going to have Elvis' baby too. She showed up at his trailor on night drunk telling everyone this. They took her to a doctor and she wasn't with child. Elvis did have an affair with the girl named Holly in the movie too. It's said that he had an affair with everyone of his co-stars except Mary Tyler-Moore. That's what she said on Johnny Carson show one time. She said that if she hadn't been married at the time he would have completed the list.

I believe I read in Sonny West's book, that he had affair with all his leading ladies exept Donna Douglas. This might explain why Joan Blackman & Shelley Fabares got reoccuring roles.

No, Elvis had an affair with Donna Douglas. She fell in love with him pretty hard. When the movie was over Elvis broke it off and she was so upset that she was going to retire from acting. The producers from Beverly Hillbillies had to talk her out of it.

I quoted my source but you didn't quote your source. How do you know?

Sonny's book indicates a number of affairs with leading ladies, but not all of them. In fact, his book makes the point that Elvis did not fool around with married women. For example, Barbara Eden was married when they filmed Flaming Star. Shelley Fabares was seriously dating when they started working together and was married by the later films. Elvis joked with her that she must have gotten married because she could feel herself weakening. The Mary Tyler Moore quote that she was the only leading lady not to have slept with him sounds good, but very probably not true. There were others besides her. For the heck of it, here's a breakdown of how it's appeared to me through the years based on various books and interviews that I've read/heard:

Probably or did have an affair: Ann-Margret, Juliet Prowse, Anne Helm, Jocelyn Lane, Michele Carey, Quentin Dean, Joan Blackman, Joanna Moore, Tuesday Weld.

Probably did not have an affair: Mary Tyler Moore, Barbara McNair, Shelley Fabares, Pat Priest, Jan Shepard, Sue Ane Langdon, Fran Jeffries, Julie Adams, Ursula Andress, Joan O'Brien, Stella Stevens, Lola Albright, Millie Perkins, Hope Lange, Dolores Hart, Carolyn Jones, Judy Tyler, Debra Paget, Suzanna Leigh.

Just not sure: Jane Elliot, Marlyn Mason, Sheree North, Ina Balin, Donna Douglas, Nancy Sinatra, Annette Day, Yvonne Romain, Dodie Marshall, Diane McBain, Deborah Walley (they were close during filming, but may have very will just been friendship), Marianna Hill, Nancy Kovack, Mary Ann Mobley, Joan Freeman, Yvonne Craig, Cynthia Pepper, Elsa Cardenas, Laurel Goodwin.

There were probably several "starlets" with small parts in his movies that managed to get his attention.

I've always wondered about E. & Shelley Fabares. She was leading lady in 3 of his movies. She was raised "a good Catholic girl" (her quote). Elvis's allure was SO strong. I wonder if there may have been a reason (beyond talent) why she was leading lady in THREE of his movies, more than any other actress. I might ad that I've met Shelley and she is the sweetest woman you could meet.

Lastly, in Darlene Love's autobiography, she claimed he propositioned her during filming of Change Of Habit.

reply

I saw part of that film years ago, I had no idea Darlene was in it. Shelley married music producer Lou Adler.
