I saw this last night for the first time- appalling!

Read the book "The Diseasing of America:" by Stanton Peele. He debunks all of that nonsense. I do not drink (never have) but saw this movie for the first time on TCM last night.

AA is a dangerous, destructive cult which damages those seeking help. As a nurse there is ONLY detox that is a medical issue all of the rehab stuff and "poor me" excuses are a joke.

This is a simplistic movie that ids so disconnected from reality it is just laughable.

yes... i found the success rate of AA to be incredibly low -- and one does wonder if it does more harm than good.

then again, it works for certain people?

Obviously you are ignorant people who don't have a clue what AA stands for or what it does for people. What you wrote is incredibly dangerous and absolutely idiotic. Get your facts right before you spew out rubbish like that. IDIOTS

Thank you! AA is not a cult. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking (or using, in NA). There are no dues or fees, no pledges to sign, no promises to make to anyone. It's the antithisis of a cult. You are responsible for your own recovery. The 12 steps have kept me clean for 26 years. They are simply tools for living. They are simple tools for living. However, simple doesn't mean easy. People fail because they won't be honest, open-minded and willing to do whatever it takes to stay clean.

For a nurse, you're tragically uninformed and ignorant. AA isn't about quitting drinking, it's about learning to live a happy life sober.
Sobriety is much more than just not being intoxicated.

Is the OP's last name Ratched, by chance?

I just saw it in full tonight on TCM. The AA portion was only one element and couldn't have taken up more than 8 minutes. Surely the main theme was the destruction alcohol does to people and relationships. Stop drinking was the main advice. By the way. I was not appalled. I didn't laugh.
