How do we get off the island?....

I remember reading somewhere that the sequences in the lighthouse were filmed and added because the main story when reviewed, prior to release, were not enough to sustain a feature length film. If this true then I think it's a nice touch to give an idea that it was a global problem. In fact they could have filmed other vignettes with leading actors in sort of cameo roles...sorry i'm getting carried away...but just as an example we could have had Marlon Brando mumbling something to one of the Triffids or Bette Davis being horrible to one....

It would have been too cute and campy, and perfect MST fodder.

The novel was quite scary and disturbing.

What will then happen to the human race? Practically everyone is permanently blinded. I see (UGH PUN) a dark future.

the problem is not everyone would go blind. msot peopel would, you know, sleep, be at work or do whatever but nto watch some meteorites fall. infact probably 50% is overestimation of people going blind.

You're right. Not everyone would have been blinded for the reasons you stated.

It would also be more interesting that way. It would be depressing and dull if everyone was blind.

You would need a certain amount of characters who could see, in order to put up a worthy (and dramatic) fight against the triffids.

I hope Raimi uses the original source novel, as opposed to "remaking" the original film. And he'd better not take his campy, condescending approach to it.

And I hope he doesn't overuse all the CGI.

The true classic DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS is still yet to be made.

That is not a problem with the plot, but precisely the central feature of it. Some seeing people survive.

I wouldn't wish Bette Davis being horrible even to an alien, carnivorous death-plant!

Only the scene where the Triffids attack the lighthouse were added, not the entire lighthouse-plot.
