A friend who saw this in the cinema in the 60s told me that when the triffid creeps up on the night watchman as he eats his supper, a wit in the audience shouted, "It's after your sandwiches!"
No one could really take it seriously after that.

"Say it with flowers . . . give her a Triffid."
