Was This Supposed To Be An Epic?

Day Of The Triffids has an epic feel, but at the same time the modest budget is very obvious. Does this make the moviemakers seem like failures or do they get credit for being ambitious? Pretty good movie. Liked the killer plants. The woman with the French accent was pretty. I give DOTT 7 out of 10.

I have loved this movie since I first saw it. The matte painters and visual effects people do their best to give the movie an epic feel. I give 'em points for trying.

No, this was never supposed to be an epic and there's nothing at all "epic" about it. It's a modestly budgeted film which does a lot with not a great deal of money. In fact, the lighthouse sequences were added after the rest of the movie was filmed because it was thought too short, hardly a sign of an "epic".

I like this film very much and it's pretty effective, but an epic it isn't...nor did its makers see or intend it as one.

Watchable and the main character has some charisma. The killer plants were okay. Could have been much worse.?

I'd still argue that if War of the Worlds (1953) was the great 'mankind-gets-shafted' movie of the 1950s, then this film is the 1960s equivalent.
