Just saw the movie for the first time and couldn't stop thinking the same thing! Perhaps the character of Sheldon was somehow based on Kier Dullea's performance as David?
share I understand the comparison but there's big differences between neurotics and psychotics.
Sheldon has his quirks but they really don't stop him from most normal functions. David at this time --1960?, unmedicated-- really can't handle things on his own.
