Great Dialogue

While this movie is definitely part of my all-time top 10, I was particularly impressed with so many great lines and some memorable scenes.

The scene where Mariana confesses to the Gestapo agent posing as a priest and her firing squad death shortly afterward were perhaps the most gripping and often remembered with this movie.

Still, there were so many great lines that I remember:
Griffith's character saying to Ericson.... "I heard you've done a great job of tuning Nazi Ericson. Even little children hate you!"

When Ericson meets Mariana and instead of shaking his hand, she proceeds into a lengthy and rather fervid kiss which prompts Ericson to remark.."there hasn't been a greeting like that since Lindburgh landed in Paris"

And of course the epiphany scene when Ericson tells Marianna that the Allies have him in a jam and he must spy for them or lose his business where she says "haven't you opposed something simply because it is morally wrong? After Ericson says doesn't your religion also tell you to love your enemy? and she responds "I'm a Christian. I never hoped to be a Saint" And finally when she says.."just think of it as one small truck going off to a concentration camp and those who are shivering inside" I feel sorry for those people . I suffer for them...But not with them that's the difference . But someday you might. You'll see a stranger a complete stranger being bullied and beaten and in that instance, he'll become your brother!!"

Finally...to the kind Nazi officer "he's (Klaus Kinski) very very sick. Let him die in Sweden"
