Did you like this or not??

When I read the write up for this movie here (IMDb), I was suprised to find that the person writing it, didn't like it.. I thought that the author was suposed to be impartial, and was suposed to just give the synopsis of it.. Then others could write in the board if they liked it or not...

Personally, I am very fond of this movie, and it is one of my favorite "Carry On..." films.... Don't ask me why, but I just have a warm feeling when I watch it. It always makes me smile and laugh....

I love it. This is my fave Carry On. I think it ticks all the right boxes.

I have to say, this is probably one of my lesser favourite 1960's-era 'Carry On's, but that's not to say it's without it's charm. Just compared to some of the others from the '60s hayday of the series, it seemed a bit flat in places. The classic 'seaside postcard' humour would have worked perfectly in this one set on a ship, but it just felt a bit by-the-numbers.

Maybe I would have liked it more if Charles Hawtree (a personal favourite of mine) was in it; he was replaced by Lance Percival (who isn't bad) due to a fall-out over billing order with producers.

All that said, it's still miles better than some of the terrible late 1970s entries!

no this one just does not do it for me... love the others.

Camping, Khyber and this one are my favourite 60s Carry Ons. The user Petersj-2 who posted the negative user comment has a very different view on it compared to myself. Kenneth Connor is always in my top 3 characters in each of the Carry On films he's in. His bumbling over-posh character trying to impress the two girls in this one is what helps to make this a great film- "Ho ho ho and a bottle of rum, what!". In the later roles, like Abroad especially, his older characters were perhaps even more hilarious.
Also, defending the comments on Lance Percival, I think he was also funny and did a great job. Petersj-2 seems to be a fan of the series and remembers when they were originally released, but doesn't seem to like Kenneth Connor, mentioning that he was glad KC wasn't present in At You Convenience in that film's review! Noticed he's from Australia, making me wonder if it's a case of certain Brit comedy acting not crossing the continents too well, or if it's just him!

An excellent post and review, JohnRouseMerriottChard- or can I call you Mr RouseMerriottChard?! Esma Cannon I remember finding funny in seeing What A Carve Up which I like a lot - a Carry On "cousin" film. Yes, you're right the two girls are nice eye-candy in Cruising, rather than comic. I think I had a bit of a thing for Liz Fraser when I was about 8!

I have to confess to enjoying "...Cruising" and thought it was one of the tighter written and better performed of the films. It's not a great film but its still a good piece of lively, inoffensive, charming bits of fun and the lack of the more dirty postcard humour(although there is a touch of very tame naughty humour that still exists)works in its favour. And I thought Lance Percival worked very well as Wilfred Haynes and had natural chemistry with the rest of the cast was possibly never more evident. He seemed to bounce of the other actors effortlessly. Sure, I did like Hawtrey but I don't think he would have been as quite as good in this particular role. For some reason Lance just walked in to the part and made it his own. Above anything else it was the actors that made "...Cruising". Although the writing and direction were pretty good.

The script is well done and the crew does a fine job as always; sadly what is missing is some of the regulars like Hawtry. Still worth a look.

Just watching it on TV now and the scene with Dilys Laye and Liz Fraser in belly dancing costumes was the best thing on TV all Xmas.

I liked it too. Not one of my favourite's, I'm a sucker for the costume period piece ones, but as Carry On's go, it got me smiling. (isn't that why they were created??? ;-))

I like this film for the Esma Cannon moments in it. This and 'What A Carve Up' are two best films that I have seen her in. I love her nervous twittering.

only moderately, it's not one of my favourites. has it's moments though. I particularly like Esme cannan as the old lady passenger.
