Very good film (slight spoilers)

The corporal is played by Cassel. He rebels against the Germans and Nazis who have signed a treaty of defeat with France, who are the losers. Consequently he will not accept the fate allotted to him and fellow French soldiers who were fighting for France when France surrendered. The soldiers are interred in camps rather than allowed to return home. Most accept their fate. Some use it to their advantage. But the corporal will not accept what is happening and tries to escape four times before he succeeds. As with most war films there are loses and tragedies along the way but Renoir delivers up a film with lots of humour and humanity.
