it's like if TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD had met NIGHT OF THE HUNTER

as if someone suggested what would happen if we had Atticus Finch - a personification of good. vs. Harry Powell - a personification of evil.

that is what I first thought when I saw Cape Fear. and of course the only reason I thought this is because of Peck & Mitchum.

Sam/Atticus & Harry/Max are really two completely different characters who probably would not like or understand each other if they were to actually meet.

and really its more of Gregory Peck vs. Robert Mitchum. the iconic roles they will always be remembered for are from TKAM & NOTH and they pulled it off because Gregory Peck was playing Gregory Peck & Robert Mitchum was playing Robert Mitchum. so when CF came along they brought their personas to the table and it worked well for them both.

My favorite scene in the entire film is the bar scene between the two of them when Sam tries to buy Max off. and max goes off on Sam with the story about his wife and what he did to her and Sam's reaction to it. it was a great piece of acting IMO. I could watch that scene over and over again.

I truly do believe that they were to of the finest actors of their generation and probably of all time. they defiantly two of my heroes of film.
