Great Quotes

Mitchum is really cool in this film. Here are some of my favorite Mitchum quotes:

1. "Hey Daddy. Where's Sam Bowden hang out?"

2. "Sam? Well, you'll right friendly, aint ya? Nice little tight copporation. Mark, good buddy, throw that man outta town. I don't like his face. Well, I'm gonna tell you something, Mr. You're gonna be old and gray before I ever leave this town."

3. "I got a caper planned for you and your wife that you'll nevah forget. Nevah!"

4. "I guess you all saw that, didn't ya? Never laid a hand on him. Standin right here, mindin my own business, man cames right up to me, starts beatin the ..." "How bout that!"

5. "I guess I'm gonna have to educate this town."

What are your favorites? Mine's no. 4 above.

"Do you have any of those peanuts with the salted shells?" Cady asks. " No sir I'm sorry, we dont" The waiter says. " Ah, then forget it!"

That was lies, counseller, kids stuff! (in relation to the tale that cady had told bowden in the bar)

reply

"Counselor, you really stepped on it this time, didn't you? I don't know what the bar association thinks about its members compounding a felony but I do know what the law thinks about it. You just put the law in my hands. And I'm going to break your heart with it."

Not only a great line (as delivered by Mitchum, anyway,) but containing the whole point of the movie: not only can the law not protect the innocent, it can be used against them.

The greatest quote ever must be what that girl he picks up says to him:

"You know what I like about you is that you're rock-bottom. It's a great comfort for a girl to know she can't possibly go any lower."

Love the way he takes it too!

Man, BOB MITCHUM was the best!

Mine's the infamous dialogue threat in which Cady says he'll do something to the girls:

Cady: Counsellor, you really stepped on it this time, didn't you? I don't know what the Bar Association thinks about its members compounding a felony but I do know what the law thinks about it. You just put the law in my hands, and I'm gonna break your heart with it! Ain't nothing can stop me! You understand that, don't you? That house, that car, your wife and kid - they ain't worth nothin' to you now!
Sam: Now, you listen to me! You asked for it. You asked for it, and if you don't get out of town--
Cady: You're WRONG, man! I'm gonna show you what it's like to BE WRONG! Speaking about your wife and kid... I got a little caper planned for them! Remember that story I told you 'bout my old lady? That was just lies/laughs, Counsellor. That was KID'S STUFF! I got somethin' planned for your wife and kid that they ain't NEVER gonna forget. They ain't NEVER gonna forget it, and neither will YOU, Counsellor -- NEVER! YOU'LL NEVER FORGET IT!

I think its grate how mitchum delivers the dialogue.

I also love that scene, and I think the line is 'That was just laughs'.

Another good one is that scene where Cady is telling Bowden about his ex-wife. Can't remember it, though.

what when he says 'so, i pumped another quart of wisky into her, threw away her dress, threw away her shoes and gave her a fair chance to work her way home' i was really discusted when i heard him say that, i thought it was just horrible

I need sex for a clear complexion, but I'd rather do it for love- Joan Crawford

reply

I also love"Oh,cmon!!You aint that scared"when Polly Bergen is reaching for the knife behing the kitchen counter-

And the whole story to Sam of what he did to his wife,he tells it with such devilish delight, its unnerving!

reply

'better scenery.'
