Why did they call him The Birdman of Alcatraz?

When Robert Stroud was moved from Leavenworth to Alcatraz he lost the privilege of keeping birds. He was only allowed to continue reading his bird journals and correspond with other bird lovers. So why didn't they call him the Birdman of Leavenworth?

Same reason most films are different from the original story... It's called dramatization and it supposely makes the film better. Unfortunately, most people are still griping about this particular film, and it was made a generation ago! Time to figure out people, the producer and directors and stuff were not trying to make it accurate, it's bad business!!! Nobody would go see it if the true story of Robert Stroud was told because there no romantic hero, just a sad old fart in love with birds and pedestry...

I think we need a new movie about how cutters get bullied for sexual favors by psycho killers in Chattahoochee (Florida State Hospital). Oh, and if you think they reformed it after the movie Chattahoochee, well truth is, several people who were patients there now run parts of it, one in particular was skitzophrenic and now runs the "Freedom house" Oh, and the freedom house is known for having a nice little sex ring! Ah, the ignorance...

Exactly! The book was written and became a best seller when he was in Alcatraz Prison; so the film is actually being more authentic, by keeping the original literary title.
