'300' Teaser Trailer Spoof!... Using 'The 300 Spartans' footage!

I'm sure you've all seen the first uber-cool "300" teaser trailer that was released in fall 2006. And I'm sure you were all blown away by it. I certainly was.

Well, if you're reading on this board, then I'm assuming you've also seen or heard of "The 300 Spartans"-- the 1962 film which told essentially the same story as Frank Miller's recent "300". As you all no doubt know, the old "300 Spartans" movie was campy and ridiculous in only the way that 50s and 60s historical epics can be. (Anybody rewatched "Ben Hur" or "Jason and the Argonauts" recently?)

Anyhoo, what I've done here is reconstruct the recent "300" trailer using all shots and dialogue from the old 1962 "The 300 Spartans" movie. It's pretty much shot-for-shot accurate, even down to the opening studio logos and the title cards.

For a fun exercise, watch the "300" teaser trailer, then watch this spoof teaser to compare each shot. Maybe you'll find some campy, geeky humor in it.

Enjoy!

:D nice one!
i was looking forward to watching this movie, but now i'm actually not that sure anymore.. the spartans look (and talk!) like some sort of pseudo 60ies'-romans. :/

Despite the campy side and the Roman (??) swords, the costumes are much closer to being accurate than the ones in the recent "300".

I know I'd like to see that version. Looks like they did their homework.

It might not be the mindless entertainment the recent film was but should be interesting nevertheless.

The Romans where largley aping the Spartans, so that makes sense.

Ben-Hur and Jason... are not ridiculous (B-H is more of a work of art, don't compare it with pepluns, much cheaper and much crapier. And, with all it's faults, 300 spartans still beats 300's crapy story, although the visuals are preatty much at the same level, with the adavantage on 300's side. And Ben-Hur beats 300 Spartans and Jason and obviously 300... anytime!). Got it right?

I just bought 300 Spartans but I havn't even seen a trailer for it.Not till now atleast. I know that wasn't a real trailer but you did a very good job. There is no point in comparing this to 300 but it does look good.

@mylesag
In some small way I can relate to your point about leaving other people's work alone. I get pretty fed up with music that relies on sampling of older and better music, but I digress.
I think video/film editors everywhere would dispute your claims of lack of creativity here. The truth is that very many editors, professional and otherwise edit other people's material. If you are editing something you yourself didn't shoot does that mean that you are uncreative? Untalented?
Editors who are part of a production often have nothing to do with the production until after the movie is shot. Technically these editors are piecing together somebody else' work. Editing is an art and a science and I believe that you can apply good editing technique to any material whether it is yours or not.
You do have a point about asking permission though. I would hope that when a short like this one isn't for commercial gain that anybody with a sense of humor would approve.

It's called a parody. It is humor. Ha ha. Funny. Man...relax a little.

What as opposed to how '300' was campy, ridiculous, retarded and racist in only the way that stupid 2000s MTV-esque, meat-headed, pop-corn trash can be?

Well done on the trailer but I have to say that although I haven't seen the 'The 300 Spartans' I can't really even begin to think of a possible way on how it could be more campy and ridiculous than Frank Miller's '300', as you say.

You kind of got me curious now..
