Dean Martin

Do you think he was really drunk in this 1975 episode?

reply

Heard it was an act, but sure was a pretty good drunk tonite!

reply

No, I think he was just an @$$hole. I saw Zach Galifianakis onstage in 2002 and thought the same thing--it was just pure surliness masquerading as comedy, except that it wasn't funny.

reply

The only ahole here is you. Do you go by your female name now?

The story goes that the it was all an act and Dean Martin's ever-present glass really held nothing more than apple juice. Johnny's 11th anniversary episode was released on DVD the other year as part of the vault series (Vault Series Volume 6) and Dean Martin showed up in it. There's a part where he offers Johnny his cup, Johnny sips from it, and there's a brief moment of confusion on Johnny's face as he looks at Dean -- and then Johnny acts like he's just downed some hard liquor. Given what we know now (or at least are led to believe), I'm guessing Johnny himself was shocked to discover he'd drank nothing more than apple juice.

Also, not sure if I read Johnny's lips correctly in last night's episode (ie the 12/75 ep with Bob Hope and Dean Martin), but did he call Dean a "g#dd@mn @ssh0le" at the end of his segment? The line was, "You should come back more often, you [blanked out]."

Act or not, I thought Dean was funny. What did Dean and Carol Wayne say that got them bleeped?

reply

You need to learn English. It's had drunk. You also need to learn what a pronoun is.

reply

Either way, I thought it was a great episode. Very funny.

reply

That was no act he clearly had no clue what was going on. He was plowed.

reply

You're an idiot.

reply

He was not drunk. He would drink apple juice. It was an act. He started drinking after his son died.
