Transition to California.

I am reliving some of these shows on Netflix. I haven't seen them since I was a Teenager, but, They start out in black and white in Connecticut and then later on she is in California working for Mr. Mooney. In the interim she loses the kids. and she goes from not working to working. I seem to remember also that her husband left her some money and Mr. Mooney was supposed to be the executor. I know that it is all make believe and mute, but I'd like to know how they transitioned over.

Here's Lucy was similar to the Lucy Show in style and castmembers but featured differently named characters. It also took place in California like the later episodes of The Lucy Show. As for The Lucy Show, the transition to California was very abrupt. I have never seen it because no fourth season episodes are available to buy, but according to Vivian Vance's biography the premiere episode of the fourth season (The Marine-Land one) has Lucy mentioning about her daughter going off to school and Vivian's marriage to Vern Bunson. That was the transition. She then goes to work for Mr. Mooney partway through the season and sends her son off to a military academy. Then the show went off in the new workplace direction that dominated the rest of its run.

In the Marineland episode (the fourth season premiere), Lucy mentions to Jerry that they should send Aunt Viv and her new husband a postcard. Lucy happens to run into Mooney, who mentions that he was transferred ("I had to choose either the state of California, or the state of unemployment"). Lucy tells him that Chris is attending college in California, so she and Jerry moved out to be closer to her (Chris is not seen in this or any subsequent episodes). Lucy also tells him that now that she knows he is in California, he can be in charge of her trust again (though that is never mentioned again after this episode).

The reason they are at Marineland is because Jerry is enrolling in miltary school, and his class is visiting there, so Lucy wants Jerry to be included in the trip. Jerry is seen in only one more episode after this, when Lucy visits him in school.

After a few episodes, Lucy convinces Mooney to hire her as his secretary.

It's obvious you have seen the episodes in question. Have you seen them recently or remember them from an older broadcast...I'd love to see them released someday.

hmmm  That's wild how they got Connecticut out of the deal.

Doesn't Lucy always say she's from Jamestown or Danville - which are over by Erie, - but across the border right?

Think Vivian moves to Connecticut because when The Ricardos and The Mertz end their travels - and then sell the apartment building - they buy the Farm in Connecticut, right?

Then Lucy and Viv start this show. - I know, after 'Lucy/Desi Comedy Hour' for a couple of years in between. - But don't they say, like, Jamestown or Danvile.

Then after Lucy moves to Hollywood - Viv makes guest appearances - but that is because the real Vivian moves back to Connecticut - because she liked it there on the Farm - and she did not care too much for Hollywood - not nearly as much as Lucy does - because of her fascination with with Celebrities, right?

Okay, maybe there's something missing on the latest reruns - because in this bunch - there was no mention of Connecticut - but maybe you're onto something there - even though it could be implicitly implied in implication or insinuatingly insinuated in insinuation, right?

 Mellow Salutations!

https://www.quora.com/Why-did-the-setting-for-The-Lucy-Show-change-from-Danfield-New-York-to-California-after-the-first-three-seasons/answer/Jon-Mixon-1

Although started off relatively smoothly with Ball’s ex-husband Desi Arnaz working as the executive producer and showrunner, the two began to clash again and Arnaz left the series after the first season. Ball then asserted control and made the myriad changes that created the monstrosity that was the next five seasons of the program.

The idea to change the series over to color in 1964, heralded a number of changes including the new setting in California, Vivian Vance left the program, Ball’s longtime friend, Gale Gordon joined the cast, the show’s children left (including Candy Moore who ironically should have stayed as she was bringing as much attention to the series as Ball did); and Mary Jane Croft came in as Lucy’s new friend in California, replacing Vance.

The change to California was apparently attempt on Ball’s part to break with the first part of her series and start again new in a “fresh format”. Arguably it was a failure because it became difficult for viewers to tell what the series was about as the myriad changes and cast departures gave the appearance that the series was in turmoil. The series was ended in 1968 when Ball to decide that she wanted to do something and began her final successful series, the even more inferior, Here’s Lucy.
