To Be Honest

Lucille Ball is my favorite comedian of all time. But I have to be honest and say-- I'm enjoying "Here's Lucy" more than "The Lucy Show". Watching "The Lucy Show" is actually kind of sad. I'm constantly missing the boys from "I Love Lucy". Whereas, "Here's Lucy" feels like a different show entirely! Am I in the minority? I mean, I love Vivian Vance-- but I find myself laughing more with "Here's Lucy". Thoughts?

funny you write that...i completely enjoyed S1 and S2 of TLS. i struggle with HL. I enjoy the Lucy/Gale scenes or Lucy/Mary Jane scenes but can't say the same for the Lucy/Kids scenes.

I love both shows. But The Lucy Show is so funny. The guys aren't there, but I think it's so funny seeing Lucy and Vivian living without men. I don't really miss the guys lol.

To be frank, part of the best bits of I Love Lucy were the plans Lucy cooked up and dragged Ethel into. I think The Lucy Show (the early ones with Vivian) are almost like those bits extended to an entire episode...just no Ricky finding out about what they're up to and yelling about it.

hmmm All three series are great - "I Love Lucy," "The Lucy Show" and "Here's Lucy" - in different ways.

(There is also "The Lucy/Desi Comedy Hour" - which hasn't been shown much. "Here's Lucy" also hasn't been rerun much.)

Lucy, Viv and Mary Jane are unbeatable in everything they're on - and Gale and Roy also add a lot to the mix.

Guest stars coming onto any of the series are also great - especially when they play characters instead of themselves - for Lucy to get all star-stuck and everything. (Lucy's at her best with someone like Ann Sothern - who plays an old pal - and Mr. Mooney's the one to get star-struck, right?)

Happy New Year, All!

@VacuumMouse...I agree with you...all three shows are great in their own special way. I like how she had Charlie Lane in "I Love Lucy" as her business manager, then later on, he was an expectant father with 6 daughters already whose wife had triplets...which were also girls...then he was the guy at the passport office...and in another show where Lucy was going to audition but she had made a bet with Fred, Ricky and Ethel that she would only tell the truth for 24 hours, Charlie Lane was the guy who was judging the auditions. Then on "The Lucy Show," he was Mr. Barnsdahl, the guy from the bank. I think other than the lady who played Lillian/Caroline Appleby (Doris Singleton - is she still living?), Charlie Lane was like the last person left who had been on "I Love Lucy." Charlie Lane was good at deadpan humor...he had no trouble keeping a straight face when he said stuff to Lucy that the audience found comical. Oh yeah...and the episode where they were in France on "I Love Lucy," and Lucy saw Charles Boyer and Ricky got him to pretend he was someone else was hilarious.

"I'd be very happy to be myself if I could remember who I am. Who am I?"

The first seasons of The Lucy Show had male figures like Ricky and Fred. Mr. Mooney, for example, acted as a "Ricky" for Lucy as he was in charge of her trust fund at the bank and how much money she could spend. In I Love Lucy, Ricky was also in charge of how much allowance Lucy got. Viv's character on The Lucy Show doesn't have a Fred Mertz to wisecrack, but she gets her best jabs at Lucy.

True.

Don't play games with a girl who can play better.

I'm just the opposite---I like THE LUCY SHOW the best of all her series' and sometimes struggle with HERE'S LUCY. It's still a favorite of mine, but THE LUCY SHOW is tops for me---even ahead of I LOVE LUCY.
