Harry

I like the first season of 'The Lucy Show', but I really think that the character of 'Harry' (Dick Martin) is pretty useless. I can understand why he went the wayside.

hmmm  Yeah, guess maybe they figured to cast Vivian, Mary Jane, Gale and Dick to draw in "Love Lucy" fans with a fresh approach - and sounds like a good idea at the time although Harry is given way too little to do.

Even Mary Jane as Audrey - at the start - just seems to fill in some needed lines - before the series really takes off - and she becomes Mary Jane on the show, too.

You can even tell how they test Lucie in walk on roles - before she is primed to make her real professional debut on "Here's Lucy" - once she learns how to project her oration - sort of like Ethel Merman usually does.

When you look back at how some series develop - you wonder where some of those early characters go - like on "Bob Newhart" and "Newhart" alike, right? But Dick Martin is pleasant enough on "The Lucy Show" - but doesn't pick up too much comedy until later in his career.

 Mellow Salutations!
