Ann Sothern as 'The Countess'

I saw a post on here where someone said that episodes of "The Lucy Show" with Ann Sothern weren't that funny. I just watched "My Fair Lucy" where Lucy and the Countess Framboise attended a high society function and it was funny as heck! I laughed so hard when they both called the old stuffy woman that hosted the party "Fat Lady" (as did her husband lol). Maybe you forgot about this episode, because it was hilarious! I laughed my butt off when Lucy was scratching herself on the sculpture because it looked like she was humping it! LOL!!

As a matter of fact, the one thing I think would have made it even funnier is toward the end, when Fred finally grew a pair and told his stuffy wife to shut up, if he had said, "Shut up, fat lady!" instead of calling her by her name. He had already called her that once, timidly, but she would have deserved it the second time because she was an overbearing old b!tch!

I thought the countess was very funny. I also liked the one where they go to a fat farm! And when they get locked in a high rise apartment with Mr. Mooney! So funny!

I also saw where people were saying that season 4 in general wasn't that funny, but I loved the episode with Dean Martin in it and her portrayal of a Japanese exterminator and an old lady when she was trying to save her favorite soap opera from cancellation. Harrywood? Lol!!

reply

Well season 5 and 6 were better but season 4 had its funny moments too!

reply

I just started watching season 5. Does Chris ever appear on the show again? I last saw her in season 3.

reply

She does not appear again no. Lucy rarely mentions her children in the later seasons. Season 5 has some very funny episodes, Lucy won an emmy for season 5 and 6. 'Lucy and the ring a ding ding' is very funny, also 'lucy is a babysitter' is hilarious also, among others!

I just watched the episode where Lucy got the ring stuck on her finger last night as a matter of fact. Just finished watching the episode where Carol Burnett becomes Lucy's roommate. BTW Carol Burnett will be 80 in April. I still only have seasons 1-5 of "Here's Lucy," but will be buying season 6 after I'm working again. Not sure when that will be.

reply

Oh and I thought "Lucy and the Robot" was hilarious, when she spanked Mr. Mooney's bratty nephew...except that he seemed older than 13. Still funny though!

reply

Yeah. I just got Here's Lucy season 6 and it has a lot of funny episodes, it's very good!

reply

Like I said, not sure when I'll get it. My family doesn't buy me birthday or Christmas presents anymore because they're all selfish asses. So I'm not going to bother acknowledging them anymore either.

I've always remembered that episode. I didn't know who she was. I thought she was Shelly Winters. Someone finally set me straight.

And yea, the tug-of-war on the fat farm is a fave.

I'm not a fan of the Countess episodes either, mainly due to the repetition of "I'm just plain ol' Rosie...." and so on. They're too much alike. I do like the one where they're at the party and Lucy has the hives and a couple of others.

reply

I always liked the episodes with Ann Sothern too.
