Facts Re: Here's Lucy

Here's an interesting fact I found out regarding a Lucy and Viv reunion that was planned but saddly it was not to be.

HERE'S LUCY
Season :: #4 - 1971-72
WITH VIV AS A FRIEND, WHO NEEDS AN ENEMY?
Airdate :: February 21, 1972

This is Vivan Vance's best performance with Lucille since the days of The Lucy Show. The script is pure Lucy and Ethel. Viv looks the best she has in years, with her hair now in a long flip and with its natural white color. Lucille seems especially pleased to be working with Vivian. In fact, they discuss the possibility of Viv returning to the fold permanently. A pilot is planned for Lucie Arnaz, and if it sells, then Lucille would need Vivian for support on the show. Unfortunately, fate is not kind. Lucie's pilot does not sell, and Vivian discovers a lump in her breast. Sixty-three year old vance will undergo a mastectomy in the following months, as well as have a minor stroke. This is the last appearance by Vance on a regular Lucille Ball TV program, and the last time Viv appears on television healthy.

That would have been a dream come true for me.

LUCY'S REPLACEMENT
Airdate :: January 17, 1972

Supporting Cast ::
R.G. Brown, Phil Vandervort

Special Notes ::

Lucille wears a new wig with a bun that is very reminiscent of her old I Love Lucy look. It does make her look younger and more feminine but she never wears it again.

I realy missed the 'Lucy Ricardo' look. I often thought her new look (post 1960) made her look older, and like a different person. If she would have kept up her
I love Lucy hair makeup and dress she would have been way more funny in my mind.

Me too. I love the frilly dresses and polka dotted aprons she would wear on I Love Lucy. She made it looked cute to be a housewife.

Don't play games with a girl who can play better.

I have the same book. I call it my Bible. Excellent, isn't it.

I loved the "Lucy Ricardo" look too. I read that she always wanted to keep her hair a bit longer because Desi liked it. But her hair stylist kept after her to cut her hair and update her look. But on The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour that "look" just made her look older, imho.

And by the time The Lucy Show came around very few housewives except for June Cleaver, wore dresses all day. Lucy Ricardo's polka dot dresses were beautiful but would've looked out of place on TLS.

My Mom wore black polka dot dresses at the time.
She was 30s/40s in Lucy's tv era.

Am reminded of her when I see Lucy's polka dots.

Vivian would make a surprise appearance on Dinah when Lucille Ball was on in 1975. A couple years later, Lucy made a deal with NBC, with a special called "Lucy Meets the President", featuring the final appearance of Vivian Vance. Despite recovering from a stroke, Viv doesn't miss a beat. Reportedly, Vivian and Lucy did have a bit of a fight off stage, but they did make up. A couple years later, in 1979, Vivian fell very ill and Lucy came down to visit with her for one last time.

It's interesting, in 1974, Lucy appeared on Donahue, back when Phil had a small show in Dayton Ohio. She claimed she was "not retiring", but truth be told she would only make guest appearances on various shows for years until her ill advised return to TV with Life with Lucy.
