Hypnotic Sphere

Has anyone ever noticed the monster in the episode "Hypnotic Sphere" looks alot like the burnt up remains of the alien in the classic movie "The Crawling eye? I wonder if this is possible or am I seeing things. Also I think the theme song (closing one) was popular on the radio for a while in the early 60's.
