Tootie

In the Fireball XL5 episode "Drama at Space City", Jonathan, the son of General Zero said than Zoonie the lazoon is a tootie in this clip. https://youtu.be/b74YvjY1s3g?t=4m48s Or in "Faster then light" General Zero and Lt. Ninety mentionned then the guy at the Space station is a real tootie. https://youtu.be/mOD7r0YP6ko?t=2m38s

I couldn't resist to imagine if what Gerry Anderson had continued to use that slang word tootie for Stingray, Thunderbirds and even Captain Scarlet? Could we imagine Commander Shore saying "Tempest, stop being stubborn like a tootie" or Jeff Tracy saying "Boys, stop acting like tooties" or even a random Mysteronized guy saying to Captain Scarlet and Captain Blue "Don't do the tootie, you lost Earthmen".

It might be a blessing in disguise for Butch Hartman, producer of the Fairly Oddparents then the word "Tootie" hadn't caught as a slang and wasn't used in Thunderbirds, Stingray and Captain Scarlet. He's lucky to not see a random episode of Fireball XL5 using that word.

What about an episode of "The Facts of Life" ?

I heard some rumors then Butch was inspired for the name of Tootie from the Facts of Life.

Was just watching Ep. 1, Planet 46, and it's a goldmine of toots. Venus says it first at 8:00 minutes. (About herself, after forgetting to make coffee for Steve Zodiac 😒. Side point: I know he just saved the entire Earth from a planetoid bomb but does he ever get his own coffee?)

Again at 11:23, then there's "a bit of a toot" at 16:58. Every one of the main characters (except Robert the robot) toots the toot!

I remember when watching the whole series years ago noticing it about every other episode. Obviously it means goofball or dope, but can't say I've ever heard it used anywhere else. Always figured it was a common (?) British expression of the time. Or still used today?

reply

The expression "Tootie" isn't widely used today.

I think it's time for a revival.
