CONCRETE RING around the set ?

Anyone know how many episodes that RING was used for cover by the Squad and the KRAUTS.

Sorry to say, " I WILL NEVER FORGIVE or FORGET what those GERMANS did to humanity for 2 WORLD WARS "
I would not buy a GERMAN PRODUCT if you paid me.. I hear the same German spoken by tourists in TIMES SQUARE , and it makes me sick..

I think he's talking about those concrete irrigation ditches that were featured in many episodes during the show's final years.

Hey folks,

The "concrete ring" rs203618 is referring to is simply a number of "concrete dividers" about three feet high and perhaps ten inches wide. While they look somewhat like concrete dividers used along roadways, they are actually made of some light weight material so they can be moved easily from one place on a set to another. As noted by rs203618, they are repeatedly used in different scenes and in many episodes which are shot on one of the MGM backlots. In some of the scenes, you can see an actor bump the "concrete" wall a little bit and it moves when it should not.

The concrete ditches we frequently see in many episodes are actually some sort of overflow channels used to connect the two reservoirs at Franklin Canyon just west of Los Angeles. Franklin Canyon was used frequently for location shooting away from the MGM backlot and studio facilities. In the first four seasons, most of the shooting for most of the shows was done at the MGM facilities, and if you watch the shows often enough, you will come to recognize familiar parts of the French Village in many scenes of many episodes. In the last season, for some reason or other they were forced to use the CBS facilities instead of MGM, and the CBS facilities were not anywhere nearly as good as those at MGM. Consequently, the last season shows were written to incorporate much more filming on location rather than at CBS. The main "on location" site for the last season was Franklin Canyon, and that is why we see the concrete ditches more often in the last season.

Best wishes,

If you are referring to what I think you are, then those were called "dragons teeth" and varied in size. My reenacting outfit actually got the dimensions for these from a museum in Belgium, and built them out of plywood (for ease of movement and transport)and then covered the outside with a thick layer of Quick-Crete. Worked well. But I highly suggest that if you want to recreate German defenses lol, build a bunch of hedgehogs. Much easier, and lighter.

Interesting. Do you buy Chinese products? Japanese products? Vietnamese made products?

"...did to humanity for 2 WORLD WARS"

WW1 was a primary reason Hitler was popular and able to rise to power. It's difficult to "blame" the German people for fighting WW1, they were ruled by an inept/insane king, Kaiser Wilhelm II, and conscripted into fighting by a military dictatorship. There was enormous resentment by Germans after WW1 both for being forced into fighting a war that really didn't concern them, losing it and then punished for it by the Treaty of Versailles which was starving their children. Unless you want to blame them for not revolting against the aristocracy, I cannot "blame" German people for WW1.

George Marshall understood that. "It was the policy of American isolationism that had allowed the Treaty of Versailles to endanger Europe and brought forth a second bitter war to the continent. Marshall realized this mistake must not repeat itself. " http://www.george-marshall-society.org/george-c-marshall/the-marshall-plan-and-its-consequences/

In the end it was hate that caused both wars and there is no clearer example of how the Treaty of Versailles after WW1 helped to enable the fascists of the world to bring us WW2.
