The first season..

..Is back on WE-TV, and like most sitcoms season one is kinda un-even..the whole Sonny Drysdale thing could have been done better, (Louie Nye was much too old to be a suitor for Elly IMO),..the back home storyline with Pearl & Mr Brewster kinda fell flat too, I'm sure Max Baer wasn't too happy about playing Jethrine either..

Oh my gosh no. I couldn't possibly disagree more. Season one was the BEST of all of its seasons. The premise was at its freshest and I really, liked the subplot back home with Pearl and Brewster (what was his problem...she was a pretty attractive woman!). Losing Cousin Pearl made the show never quite be as good as it was. The FEUD episode with its opening lyrics was one of the all time classic episodes. SO many good episodes...Jed buying the Hollywood Bowl from a con man...fantastic!

Can I agree with both of you?

I am serious. Knight... I also wasn't a huge fan of the Sonny storyline and didn't think the Brewster-Pearl "romance" was that great.

But I agree with the responder who disagreed with you, saying the first season was the outstanding. It wasn't perfect, as we have noted, but overall, the Clampetts reactions to all the new things they encountered was marvelous.

I think the next two seasons were even better, but that first season was one of the best first seasons a series ever had. Between the great golf/baseball episode, the time the Clampetts got sued for a traffic accident and all the episodes with Pearl and Jethrine in California--it was a great season of episodes!

Why don't we just shoot 'em down and be through with it?

the fued episode and song was the best of the series.

I've always thought Sonny Drysdale's age was part of the overall gag. He was basically middle aged but was still living the life of a college student...his room had pennants from Harvard and Yale and other college items. It actually was funnier that way, with Mrs. Drysdale babying him and talking to him as if he was a small child when urging him to go on a blind date with Elly: "Do it for *dad-dee*"

Plus Nye was quite well known at the time, his first appearance had the "audience" clapping when he was first shown.

Of course Louie Nye was too old for her. That's the joke.

The Sonny character is a riot! So is Dash Riprock!

From what I've read, Max Baer got sick of playing Jetherine pretty quickly.
