What's your favourite Kurosawa?

My favorite by Kurosawa is Yojimbo. Seven Samurai comes next

Yep! Yojimbo goes as first.

Then there is Seven Samurai, Sanjuro, Throne Of Blood, Rashomon, The Hidden Fortress. I found RAN and Kagemusha to be pretty much depressive. Haven't seen many of his movies though. Especially those with contemporary plot

I have had the privilege of watching five Kurosawa movies before watching Yojimbo viz. Seven Samurai, Ran, Dersu Uzala, Rashomon, and High & Low and each left me mesmerized, but in a completely different manner than the last.

Ran and Dersu Uzala top my list. Rashomon is a masterpiece in itself and cannot be challenged for its brilliance. Seven Samurai, Yojimo are the avant-garde action movies and have continued to inspire film-makers for more than five decades. High and Low is a classic Thriller, far superior than the movies of today in terms of plot and execution. It also highlights the vices of poverty in corrupting an individual.

I recently watched Throne of Blood and was literally blown away by the dark, melancholic tone of the movie. It's deep and hauntingly remarkable.

I agree with most of you, but always liked Battle Royale. Flame away lol.

I like "Rashomon" for film technique. I like "Seven Samurai" for historical drama, but the films that I revisit most are all the post-war Japan films: "High and Low", "Ikiru"... and unrelated, I really like Ozu's "Tokyo Story".

I've seen 7 Kunswana films and I've gotta say High and Low is my fav thus far of them

Yojimbo is an excellent film (9/10) abut not a masterpiece

Idon't know that's tough. My favorite of his action scenes are in Yojimbo, definiely, but I think The Seven Samurai has better drama build up to the action. Rashomon and Sanjuro would be up there too. All in all, I think I would go with Rashomon as my top, then Yojimbo, Seven Samurai, Sanjuro. I still need to see Ran though. No Regrets For Our Youth would be my favorite of his non-samurai flicks.

The Idiot
Ikiru - for the bar scenes and the striptease.

Definitely Yojimbo.

Did you know they're remaking High & Low? David Mamet is adapting the screenplay, and Martin Scorsese will direct. Awesome.

These are for you McNulty!
