old cirtieron vs. new criterion

I just watched my old criterion version of Yojimbo. I was surprised to see it has a lot of scratches, cracked frames, dust, and a noisey sound track.

Question: how does the new criterion version look?

Any info on Sanjuro as well?

thanks for your help.

can you be more specific on the differences? I know there are two translations on the criterion version of throne of blood and I do prefer one over the other. one is more literal the other is more modern and english.

What exactly is a 'cirtieron'?

Criterion is a company who puts out really nice dvds. They focus on "important" films. Some high brow some not.

A better question is why were all those other posts, ie the helpful ones deleted by an administrator????

I recently got the blu-ray and it looks and sounds incredible. I'm talking like, so good i want to cry incredible, much like the film itself.

Since the OP's questions have been answered, I am not going to feel guilty about leaving to posterity the mostly off-topic fact that my wife somehow cracked my old Criterion Yojimbo from center hole all the way out, so basically the disc is one half broken....and it still plays without an error of any kind.
I consider it a miracle as any other of my discs with even moderate scratches give problems.
Of course I am still horrified my Yojimbo was cracked (Kurosawa is my favorite director) and it took a lot for me to muster the courage to post this.

As i remember the old Criterion uses the english title, is that right? the resolution is very poor.
