Such an observation simply indicates an lack of understanding or appreciation of the wide and varied means of telling a story.

shareThey are, but most musicals, unlike the old, original 1961 film version of West Side Story, tend to lose a lot of their "kick" when they get transferred from stage to screen. The original 1961 film version of West Side Story is a very rare exception. With rare exceptions, including the 1961 film version of West Side Story and afew others, I've never, ever been a huge fan of musicals on film.
