It often depends on where one is, and the theatre in which a popular older film is playing. Many people don't go to the big cineplexes such as the Regal Cinemas or any other places like that, first because they charge a fortune, not only for the movies, but also for the concessions, which are often full of sugar and salt, and because the large cineplexes mostly play the newer, schlockier, junky and graphic films that are coming out these days and that are almost mass-produced.
"Grease" was part of the fathom Events just recently, and it sold out, rather quickly, so there's really no telling what may happen.
Upon attending screenings of older classic movies such as West Side Story and other older classic films at independent, non-profit repertory theatres, I have discovered that, while they haven't sold out, they are quite well-attended.
Back in the summer of 2013, I attended the Tanglewood Boston Symphony Orchestra/West Side Story (1961 film) concert, where the Boston Symphony Orchestra played a live rendition of the musical score to the film version of WSS, while showing a re-mastered, Hi-Def version of the film, five years ago, and, despite the addition of several extra lawn benches, that concert sold out! Word had it that there were at least 20, 000 people attending that concert. I'll be going again to that same concert, this July.
I purchased my ticket for the Boston Symphony Orchestra/West Side Story concert at Tanglewood this July (Tanglewood is the summer home for the Boston Symphony Orchestra.), and also made my hotel reservation back in mid-January, and was glad that I did so, because most of the hotels in the area were sold out for that particular evening, plus not long after I bought my ticket, the concert was pretty much sold out already.

That is good to hear. I would love to go, but I just don't like big crowds. It has been awhile since I've been to Tanglewood.

Thanks for your input, modica. I can see where you wouldn't like big crowds. They can be difficult to deal with, at times. With me, however, it depends on the situation. For me, however, something as special as a showing of the original 1961 film version of West Side Story, however, is worth dealing with big crowds, whether they're in a movie theatre, or at Tanglewood.
Btw, do you live close to Tanglewood, or within driving distance of it? Just curious.

I can drive there. It takes less than a couple of hours from where I live to get there.

I, too, can drive to Tanglewood, from just outside Boston, MA. It takes roughly 2-3 hours for me to get there, depending on the traffic, and so on. I use the "Waze" app on my smart phone for long distances, which helps a great deal.
