Changed final scene (**spoilers**)

I read one of the essays that came with the Criterion disc, and apparently the final scene was changed -- originally Viridiana was going to go to Jorge's room and the film was to end there. However, the censors would not have allowed this to pass, since it would have been considered immoral.

Hello? After all the *other* stuff that happened in this film, especially the multiple attempted rapes and the unique means of "photographing" the supper, THAT is what would have been considered too shocking? I had to laugh when I read that. I mean, really. LOL

Just speaks to how out of tune the censors were with the entire thing. I (and apparently Bunuel too) really like the ending as is - it's definitely got a much more salacious vibe with the three of them, rather than her just going into his bedroom. Great example of Bunuel being able to finesse censorship into something that comes off as much worse than what was originally intended.

I agree, it makes no sense.
However, I never understood it as threesome. It was more shocking the rape scene, when there was possibility of threesome: "Let him go first then it's my turn" sentence. How conservative censors allowed that?
