Where was Jean-Claude Brialy?

IMDb includes Jean-Claude Brialy in the cast with no role name.
In the Italian version which I saw, his name is not on the credits, and he is nowhere to be seen in the film. Since he was a major star at the time, I can only guess that either his scenes were deleted, or else he was never in it in the first place. There is also a possibility that he might have played the role of le confesseur in the French version, which would have fitted him perfectly, but this is only a guess. Without some confirmation as to his participation in the film, I think his name should be removed from the cast.
