I saw that it was only scheduled for 15 min which puzzled me since it was a 75 min movie.
I watched and it really was on for only 15 min. Actually more like 10 min since there was a commercial break.
It was obviously trimmed to death, the pace was so fast. But now that I think about it, there was really no problem with that. This would be torture to watch for over an hour. We probably saw all the good parts anyway.
I just find it interesting that they bothered airing it. Seemed really out of left field. I wasn't even aware that networks could trim down movies to such a length. For instance could a network show an hour long version of Lord of the Rings if they wanted to kill time? I don't know the logistics but it's interesting. This movie probably cost 75 cents to air anyway so they probably just said screw it.
It's actually a pretty fun movie. The special effects are very good for the time. I bought the DVD from Dark Sky Films and find I watch it pretty often. The plot is silly and the movie clearly made for children. The movie catches a lot of flack over a shot where a building with a giant statue of Hitler is blown up. It was a advertisement for the first Japanese publication of Mein Kampf. The shot is brief. There is plenty of destruction scenes using excellent miniatures and seamless optical effects. I find INVASION OF THE NEPTUNE MEN to be very enjoyable. If you like other Japanese sci-fi like BATTLE IN OUTER SPACE, GORATH and THE MYSTERIANS, you will probably like this film too.
