6 years before The Dirty Dozen?

Is this the first movie in which American soldiers are portrayed in a negative light?
I'm wondering because the Vietnam war was yet 3 years away and The Dirty Dozen was 6 years away.
Some say that this movie prophtically potrays US troops as they would be in a few years later- as a bunch of sadistic brutal GIs in the Vietnam War and The Dirty Dozen

are you mentally challenged? most us soldiers in vietnam did not engage in rape and sadism, that's just public perception generated and perpetuated by liars and stupid people who didn't like the war.

read about some of the exploits of soldiers, actual accounts of embedded journalists, and research by historians. incidences of voluntary atrocities(excluding collateral damage) were greatly exaggerated.
