After hearing the story about the private giving up their posistion, it is obvious he has been in ground combat but he is also wearing wings. Was he a forward observer? Was he an air corps pilot that choose to not go over to the USAF? Was he in the air corps and complete his education (reporter said he went to 2 (very good) schools) and decided to remain in the army upon his return? Are his wings for being a helicopter pilot?

Why is he wearing scrambled eggs on his hat as a major, services except the USMC don't include them O-5 rank?

The Director and art director just selected the military awards that would photograph well in the courtroom. That's all.

An Army major's cap had scrambled eggs. (A major is O-4, by the way.)

Your questions are entirely irrelevant to the storyline.
