Looking forward immensely to this!

Me too! Are you going?

I bought my ticket online today. It's filling up fast, as it just got a big feature in the Telegraph, so folks are now alerted to it.

I often loiter around for the return tickets that go for very little on the night of a performance.

But for this one, did not want to take a chance. Ponied up for the full whack, ouch!

Have never seen it on stage. And it's a wonderful chance to see Sharp in a play, as well. Have always been a huge fan of her work.

Haven't bought tix yet but will do when I get paid again later this month. I have, though, booked to see the three associated platforms. That reminds me I must read the play next week.

I've never seen it on stage either. I read in the Observer the other week that Delaney was very proprietorial about the play.

Whatever else, I have complete faith in Lesley Sharp, who I've seen perform five times before, as well as Kate o'Flynn - did you see the latter in Port?

reply

No did not see "Port" alas. But like O'Flynn.

Can't believe I ponied up the price of that ticket online. haha Ouch!

I usually skulk about the return lines to get the 12 quid or whatnot tickets. Well worth the time to wander over to the south bank early in the day to save that kind of money.

But sometimes, the way they program the shows--just a few nights here and there--it's easy to miss out completely if I wait for a night to go over and wait in the returns queue.

Some of the upcoming plays looks even better than what's on offer now. But unfortunately I'll be back in the U.S. when some of them open. I'm only in the UK a couple of months at a time--switching between the U.S. and U.K. through the year.

It always seems as though the "best" plays are when I'm....away. Gah.

I do recall jumping through major hoops and queuing and really sticking in there to get a ticket for the sold out "Habit of Art." Which in retrospect was a poignant thing...a very last chance to see Richard Griffiths on stage. So sad a loss.

It seemed very unfortunate at the time that the play, having been written for Gambon, could not go on with Gambon due to a health issue and the great Griffiths loyally stepped in to fill the starring role. And now, having seen what happened to Richard, it almost seemed cosmic that it happened that way.

Talk about going out on a high...in a Bennett play.

I usually, for the National, do what you do and get a ticket either as a return or a day seat one, or even standing up. But I see that tickets are already selling healthily and when the reviews from press night are published next Wednesday, I'm thinking remaining tickets are going to sell even faster. I see top price tickets are a whopping £50! I'm not entirely sure what to do now, but at the moment my plan is to go to the theatre next Tuesday after work and get a standing ticket for the sold out press night; I can't afford a 'proper' ticket until I get paid anyway.

I saw that play, too, as well as The History Boys (queued on the day for three hours). He was such a talented actor.

Please do report back on the play.
