I think he jumped out of the window and landed in the alley. He did kill himself.

LOL. Perfect response. Considering that people were jumping out of windows left and right after the crash, I thought that the OP was pulling our leg.

People jumping out of windows during the Depression is a myth; however, that's what Ace did in the movie.
