Daytime and nighttime at deanie's suicide scene.

Why is it daytime when deanie tries to kill herself, and night at the same time. It's night when she leaves the dance and when bud is trying to look for her. I may be wrong but I believe this is what happens.

Two things.

It's either been a long night of making out in the car and dawn is encroaching.

It's still meant to be night (it doesn't look bright) and Kazan just decided to shoot the scene in the day and darken it using blue filters.🐭

I often wondered about that too. What was the name of the guy that Deanie was making out with?

That was "Toots", played by Gary Lockwood, seven years before he was killed by that sneaky bastard HAL in "2001"!

Robert Osborne said on TCM years ago, after the movie, it was because Natalie Wood was afraid of dark waters. There was many lifeguards (not sure that was the word he used) in the water around her to make her more comfortable while filming the scene.
