Just watched it again. I love this film possibly because I am old and wonder would I be attracted to such a young man.......the more I think of it I say no I would not be attracted to such a young man. The beautiful Jill St. John played such an air head in this movie that I was embarrassed for her. I did not like the ending where she invited that dirty looking guy up. God knows what he was planning for her. She was very naive even though she was supposed to be 50. I would have said to her, "be afraid, be very afraid" !!!!!!!
shareYou miss a crucial point, she invited him up because she knew he was dangerous. She had heard that there was a murderer on the loose in the city. She had seen him stalk her the whole time- a metaphor for her debased side, the side of her that was sensual, that she had tried to keep under "stone" until it was released and she allowed herself to be humiliated in pursuit of her desires. This is a psychological drama. I think it is excellent, if you understand the layers, and the players who play on her, and manipulate her. By inviting up the devil, the "angel of death" so to speak, she was punishing herself, committing a very gruesome suicide.

'' A cut -throat will do just fine ...'' (or words to that effect) and chose to die instead of facing a life without Beatty ...
I prefer to think that she went on to have a marvelous evening of satisfying sex with a much younger man. It does happen, you know.
