Marvellous staging, the wonderful Greek language and a great Creon

I love this drama from Sophocles. It's difficult filming plays for screen as the staging can seem theatrical rather than cinematic, but this film worked well. There were moments of theatre but they typically involved someone making an important speech and so felt 'right'. The costumes were great looking too. Whilst modern and ancient Greek differ, the film gains from the dialogue being in Greek. Finally I thought the actor playing Creon was wonderful. Full of pride, wrath and callousness yielding to confusion, fear and sorrow.

A bird sings and the mountain's silence deepens.
