I could never understand why in the novel Peyton Place, Connie McKenzie marries Tom Makris, the new principal of the high school However, in the sequel Return to Peyton Place, Connie is married to Michael Rossi. I wonder why Grace Metalious did that?

I believe Tom Makris was the name of a real person (who lived either in Grace Metalious's home town or one of the nearby communities) and this is why his name was changed to Mike Rossi, to avoid a lawsuit.
