Filming locations

Having been born and raised in Hartford and Windsor, Connecticut, I drive by the Sala Post home almost everyday. It still looks the same, although a glassed enclosed grenhouse is now attached to the garage. It is at 1284 Poquonock Avenue, although don't go knocking at the door. The new owners are sick of locals saying:"Did you know they filmed a movie at your house?"

The Terra Mar Hotel (Where the Raike boat was docked) was in Old Saybrook. It was torn down a few years ago to build condominiums.

The only location I haven't found yet was the Church where the weddings were held. Anybody else know?

Oh, and the old farm house where Teet and his family lived is gone. At least I haven't found it. Many of those old Tobacco workers homes were torn down ages ago.

The only information that I have is when I saw the movie on AMC the church was
was in essex, CT with members of the congregation as extras. I hope this helps.

This is correct. The church is the First Congregational Church in Essex, CT. You can see the building with google maps street view as long as you position yourself on West Ave in Essex and the church still matches the movie footage.

I was curious about the old hotel and searched for more details on it. This link was interesting to me as it mentioned members of the Rat Pack hanging out the hotel back in the day: http://www.getawaymavens.com/saybrook-point-inn/

... one of the more interesting aspects of the film. It's not as if they're have been a lot of films made centring on the Connecticut tobacco plantations and there aren't likely to be too many more produced.🐭

How interesting. Thank you.

The Sala Post house at 1284 Poquonock Avenue is now painted a mustard gold. The new owners really wanted to hide the houses history I guess.

Thanks for posting that information!

Watching it now on TCM.

You forgot to mention Mystic Seaport (when Troy Donahoe walks and talks with Claudette Colbert in the first third of the movie).
