This is a great movie and is shown regularly on television and well worth watching. Paul Newman and Sydney Portier are great. Louis Armstrong is great too and the scene where he, Newman and Portier play jazz together is magnificient. Joanne Woodward and Diahanna Carroll are very good with supplying the love interest.

Undervalued film, for sure. On My Top 10 that year.
shareAgreed, I think it deserves a higher rating on IMDb. The performances alone make it well worth seeing.
The blu-ray, by the way, looks stunning. It really does the b & w cinematography justice. From that opening close-up of Newman playing the trombone, the clarity is absolutely amazing.
