This scene is irritating and should be cut

I know a few people have already commented on this, but the part where the ex wife punches her ex husband in the nose. If men aren't entitled to hit women, what makes the woman think she can haul off and hit the man? First of all, the ex husband was not being threatening or calling her names, he was just irritated and surprised to see his ex wife. It's a bad relationship when people hit, regardless of being married or divorced. That scene always bothered me and then for the rest of the movie, his eye look like it really hurt.

"Duh. You're the idiot. Not me."

It was supposed to be funny and cute and in fact Maureen O'Hara's reaction does make it work in a way.

Poorly Lived and Poorly Died, Poorly Buried and No One Cried

Maureen O'Hara got knocked around quite a bit 10 years earlier in The Quiet Man so this scene is like revenge.

"The end of the shoelace is called the...IT DOESN'T MATTER!"

It was 1961, not the 2010's. Accept that society was different over fifty years ago. I'm sorry to be harsh, but your cultural expectations do not make sense for the timeframe that this was released. Just enjoy the movie.

Agreed. I don't think any movie would benefit from editing out things that may not work in modern times. You can't go rewriting the past to suit how you feel right now.

Consider the daffodil. And while you're doing that I'll be over here looking through your stuff.

If you notice the ending scene, he tells her she can slug him anytime she wants. In spite of the sock to the eye (not the nose), the couple did not impress me as the kind who go around constantly beating on each other, and they had their quarrels in private away from the kids.

As a kid I thought it was great. It was nice to see a woman act so strong and firm. I was a tomboy and loved the mother in this movie.

As an adult I can see it was wrong. I also noticed she had hit him before. He says something like not again.

Domestic Violence was okay back then, as long as is the female the violent one...LOL

Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?
